President’s Perch

As I began my senior year, I was expecting fun and relaxation. Boy oh boy, was I mistaken. Like a splash of cold water, I was greeted with not only presidential responsibilities, but also those of the lead in our fall musical, Newsies, college applications, my course load, and my social life. However, I’ve made it through.
This grit and grind is exactly what I’ve come to see in the Abbey. As a community, we continue to battle through whatever obstacles are thrown in our way. Whether we’re hit with a pandemic or the death of a recent alumnus, I’ve seen the Abbey community bounce back from anything and everything.
After COVID, it was pretty obvious that our school spirit was waning. There was a lack of sign-ups for clubs, low sporting event attendance, and overall a scarcity of belief in the Abbey community. That is until Lucious and Max became the co-presidents. Under the leadership of the last administration, our school spirit boomed. The heightening not only of quantity but also quality of after-school activities helped to boost the Abbey back to the level I had observed since I was three. And under the tutelage of two of the best guys I have ever had the privilege of knowing, I, like the Abbey, have learned how to bounce back
My co-president Connor Paletta (’25) and I didn’t have a huge agenda coming into this year. We weren’t expecting to drastically alter or overhaul anything that previous administrations had put in place. Rather, we aimed to keep the status quo, make the best marginally better if we could, and build upon the strongest supports any contractor could hope for. One thing Connor and I are especially proud of this year is our commitment to making the house race more engaging and enjoyable. We have noticed that, in previous years, nobody knew what the house points meant, what everything was worth, and how they could help their house the most. This year, we have made sure to up the ante and improve the house point system so as to not only make it a more tight race, but also to make it a race in which the top of the table is constantly changing, allowing for more competitive intramurals, higher club attendance, and an overall more engaging house cup competition.
Thank you to all the Abbey boys who have continued to support our redoubled efforts to boost school spirit and create a more cohesive Abbey community. We are eternally grateful.
