President’s Perch

As the year and my time at The Abbey come to a close I am reminded of the motto on the wall at the entrance to the upper building: “Rursus Incipiemus Nunc et Semper”, “Now and Always We Begin Again”. At this time of my life, this rings particularly true. I am just six short months away from living away from home for the first time, I am just six short months away from starting a new school, and I am just six short months away from not being at The Abbey every day. This is a scary feeling, but it is also incredibly exciting to have the opportunity to Begin Again.
This feeling has made me reflect closely on this last year. It has been a great year at The Abbey! This is because of the amazing participation from the student body we have had all year. Every event has been attended with amazing energy. Trivia nights, movie nights, and dances were all smashing successes. It has truly been a joy to watch. House competitions through the drives and competitions like the Cherry Blossom Tournament have been better than ever. It has been awesome to see all the house pride. It was amazing to see all the people representing their cultures at the cultural showcase this spring, and the tournament crowd was better than ever.
The school year may be coming to a close, but we still have many events ahead of us. We still have a trivia night, the prom, and of course, we will crown the house champions on field day. I am super excited to enjoy the rest of the school year and have more fun events. I love seeing everyone there and participating in the events myself.
We will also soon Begin Again and have a new Student Body President. The IHC elections have just passed and I have full faith in Philip and Connor and their ability to run the IHC. I have greatly enjoyed my time as Student Body Co-President – it has been a true joy. I am excited for the school to get a chance to Begin Again and continue to move forward and change for the better.
As we all look forward to summer and next school year, which are not nearly as far away as they seem, we should all think about the power of Beginning Again. The opportunity we get every year throughout the year to constantly Begin Again is an amazing gift. It allows us to get a better grade in our math class. It allows us to become smarter people. It allows us to become the best version of ourselves.
